What We Do
Cassa Musical Arts is a federally registered charity offering a program of summer camps in piano, musical theatre, jazz, songwriting, composition, and beginner guitar. We also offer masterclasses and workshops throughout the year.
Our in-person summer camps and masterclasses take place in Calgary, Canada, and our online masterclasses and workshops are available internationally.
Who We Are
Cassa Musical Arts comprises a team of administrative personnel, board members and experts who manage the association and carry out its activities. Co-Founder and Creative Director, Linda Kundert, has continually served as an expert since the association’s founding in 1993. Many artist-teachers from our team of internationally recognized experts have served Cassa Musical Arts for more than ten years.
Mission Statement
Dedicated to enriching lives through music and performing arts, Cassa Musical Arts [Cassa] programs are designed by award-winning specialists for all ages and stages of development. Under the guidance of leading experts, Cassa’s integrative and immersive programs build high-level skills in musical arts through education and collaboration. Cassa seeks to involve our community in the benefits of effective musical training, which ensures access to musical arts education, regardless of socioeconomic status, background or ability.
The diversity and demographic inclusivity of our programs allows Cassa to be a musical home for our community, focusing energy on music-making and skill-building. Learning through highly qualified instructors, students develop their own skills while discovering the tools, tactics, and knowledge necessary to expand their craft towards expertise in the musical arts.
Our History and Current Scope
Cassa celebrated its 30th year in 2023. We started in 1993 with the brilliant idea of providing a summer workshop for piano students. We now offer our services year round, including several fine arts programs run as summer arts and music camps, and online workshops and masterclasses, plus an annual recital. Our courses are designed for fun and education for a wide range of interests and ages.
For three decades, Cassa has provided quality arts education with a high level of professional instruction within a completely unique, inter-disciplinary arts school. Whether students are only beginning their artistic education or are advanced in their studies, Cassa has something for everyone!
Initiated in 1993 by a small group of Calgary music teachers in collaboration with a local piano dealer and incorporated in 1996 as a non-profit society, Cassa Musical Arts (previously the Calgary Arts Summer School Association - Cassa) has grown into a comprehensive summer arts program representing numerous artistic disciplines.
Since its inception, over 5000 students from age four through adult have participated in the diverse and innovative programs offered by Cassa in various years including Cassa Guitar for Beginners, Cassa Creative Music, Cassa at Play, Cassa Pedagogy, and Cassa Recital.
While these programs tend to attract participants from Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, some come from the United States, and others from more distant regions — the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and South America.
Cassa is a registered charity and donations to Cassa are tax-deductible.
Building Our Vision
Cassa is the school for the arts!
Cassa is a committed self-sufficient organization. To ensure the availability of its year-round innovative and exceptional programs, Cassa continually implements dynamic funding strategies, acknowledges its supporters and satisfies the needs of the community.
Unique Opportunities for Students to Learn and Grow
Cassa's programs offer unique opportunities for students to learn and grow, to interact in a social setting, to be introduced to various disciplines of the arts, to enhance their skills, and to come away with a positive and fulfilling experience.
Participating instructors have the opportunity to interact with and learn from their immediate peers and gain greater insight into pedagogical theories and practices through working with guest clinicians.
Parents and members of the general public are able to experience the culmination of these collaborative efforts through attending recitals and open house events. Cassa strives to provide these programs at a cost that is non-prohibitive. Bursaries and Grants-in-Aid are available for students in financial need.
Cassa Musical Arts is an inclusive, safe working environment for all, teachers and students alike. Please click here to download our Participant Protection and Inclusion Policy.
We Have Talented and Dedicated People!
Cassa is a member of Volunteer Canada. We rely on volunteers for most of our work. Without them it would be difficult; if not impossible to present programs of this calibre to students in our city. (Thanks Volunteers!) Because we cater to students of all ages (including very young students), we welcome volunteers for assistance in supervision and food preparation with our younger students. If you have some time to assist during the summer or even during the rest of year when we are organising programs; please contact Linda Kundert at (403) 969-0418 or use our email contact form.
Our Promise
At Cassa Musical Arts, we welcome and celebrate diversity in all forms—across identity, orientation, ability, and background. Our programs offer a safe, supportive space where everyone can explore their creativity and connect through music and theatre. We are committed to fostering respect, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all.
